The unique quality of scale ice is its low temperature (-7° to -8°) and the dryness of the ice, which makes it even more long lasting than flake ice. It is ideal for bagging and freezing as its low temperature and dry nature prevents it from sticking together. It is made on a rotating cylinder and is then scraped off. The thickness of the ice can be adjusted to a thick scale (2.5 mm) or a thin scale (1 mm).

Scale ice can be used for ice beds, food display, bottle cooling and, in particular, for shellfish storage and display. Not only can the TM 500 be installed on top of a free standing storage bin, it is also suitable for siting on top of a low temperature coldroom.
