NEW: Hydrocarbon ice makers!

Do you want to go 100% green?
Hydrocarbon ice makers are the new generation ice makers. Applying available technology and Hoshizaki ice-making expertise, Hoshizaki have produced the world’s first fully CE compliant ice making machine.

Strict legislation limits the charge size in ice-making appliances, but Hoshizaki have proved that BS/EN60335-2-24 regulations can be achieved – making a machine which not only makes in excess of 450kg of Flake or Nugget ice per day, but is also totally safe, reliable, and can be legally installed in any size room.

It is official. Hoshizaki ROX has won the Apria Innovation Award for Technical Equipment 2008 at the Equip Hotel exhibition in Paris. On sunday November 16th our Managing Director Akira Kamiya officially received the award.

We are thrilled to receive this award since ROX is a real asset to our product range. ROX is designed to clean and sanatise without any detergents. By an electrolys proccess and plain salt two types of water are produced: alkaline and acid water. Alkaline water solves proteins and oil. Acid water is effective in sanitzing and bacteria control. The advantages of this product are in short:

  • No need for chemicals (save costs).
  • More effective than the average chemical.
  • No residue is left behind.
  • Not harmful for the human body.
  • Environmental friendly

New features for 2008

IM21, IM30 and IM45 now with removable air filter.

Airborne debris collects in the condensor and, if left untouched, would hinder the performance of the machine. However, Hoshizaki uses removable filters which can be cleaned in seconds ensuring maximum performance at all times and reduced maintenance bills. The IM21, IM30 and the IM45 are now also equipped with this air filter which is conveniently placed on the front.

Drain pump available for KM35A and KM50A.

For environments where a gravity drain is unavailable, Hoshizaki can supply a drain pump kit which allows the machine to be installed below the level of the waste-water drain. For example, under counter in bars, where the nearest waste-water drain is maybe from the hand-basin, and higher than the waste-water outlet of the machine.

The pump can be installed inside the KM-35 or KM-50 ice-maker, and connected to the machine control system, so when the machine switches to drain mode, the water pump automatically starts. When the drain cycle is complete and the water valve closes, the pump will ensure all of the waste water is removed before automatically switching off.

The pump control is independent of the ice-machine, so if the machine is left for a very long time and some ice melts, the pump will run momentarily to clear the excess water collected in the tank.

Hoshizaki Electric Co. Ltd., headquartered in Toyoake, Japan is pleased to announce the wholly owned subsidiary,
Hoshizaki Europe Holdings B.V., headquartered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, is to acquire the Danish commercial refrigerator manufacturer Gram Commercial A/S. In accordance with the share purchase agreement which has been entered into on September 1, 2008, with Equity Datterholding 1 (GC) ApS who owns Gram Commercial, the amount to be paid for this acquisition is DKK 395 million (approximately JPN 8.6 Billion). (Note 1)
Note 1)Payment will be made in Denmark KRONE (DKK), at the exchange rate of DKK1=JPY22.

Since its establishment in 1947, Hoshizaki Group has expanded its business in commercial kitchen equipment leveraging its high technology, strong sales and service network. While maintaining a large market share in Japan, Hoshizaki aims to increase its worldwide market share through turnover in overseas markets for continued growth in the commercial kitchen industry.

Hoshizaki business plan is to raise the current overseas turnover rate of 23.8% in consolidated sales to 34% in the fiscal year ending December 2012. To achieve this, it is essential for Hoshizaki to expand its market share in Europe particularly by refrigerator sales.

Gram Commercial is the market leader in terms of quality, functional design, and customer service. Hoshizaki anticipates the synergy with Gram Commercial will create significant growth in both profit and sales.

Gram Commercial, headquartered in Vojens, Denmark, is recognized as a leading manufacturer of commercial refrigerators and freezers in the European food service equipment market and target commercial kitchens utilized in restaurants, canteens, hotels, hospitals, nursing homes and institutions. Following the acquisition, Gram Commercial and Hoshizaki will develop new products combining technologies in energy saving products with natural refrigerant. Through the sales networks of both companies, and the exchange of refrigeration, ice machines and other products, new products will be available to European countries enabling the Hoshizaki Group to promote the globalization of foodservice kitchen equipment.

Mixology Ice Queen, Bex, Swears by Hoshizaki

Award winning mixologist, Rebecca ‘Bex’ Almqvist, developed her significant skills through working in some of Europe’s most highly regarded bars and hotels.Notably, in her home town, Stockholm, she worked in the famous Buddha Bar and Windows Bar then later, in London, she spent time at The Sanderson Hotel, The Hilton and Harvey Nichols’ Prism Bar which she ran. She is currently the bartender at The Lansdowne in Notting Hill but also spends time as a freelance mixologist at functions and events and entering (and winning) bartending competitions.
Her philosophy is to only use the best, freshest ingredients – and this includes ice. “It’s a main component of every cocktail yet its importance is so often overlooked,” she explains. “Over the years, I have used ice from many different manufacturers’ machines but there is only one that stands out and that’s Hoshizaki. Their machines produce a good, pure, solid cube that melts very slowly so that the flavour of the drink is not affected.”

So committed is Bex to Hoshizaki ice that she takes her own supply from The Lansdowne (where both an IM240 cube machine and an FM120 flake machine are installed) when she is competing – when the competition venue hasn’t already got Hoshizaki.

“I simply don’t understand why anybody in this business would want to compromise on ice,” she continues. “When you’ve invested in staff, premises, training, research and ingredients, why blow it all by using ice that’s going to melt quickly.”

Her sheer dedication to her profession is certainly paying off. In April 2008 she won the London heat of the Miller’s Gin Annual Mixology Awards and has high hopes for the forthcoming national event; she came second in the Beefeater Twisted Competition in July and was the outright winner of the UK’s first non-sponsored competition – Rematch Beatch – based on speed and skill - in March. She is also the official bartender for Perrier Water and has just produced 12 new drinks for them.
