Celebrating 70 Successful Years!

“…our Loyal Staff and Dealers have played a key role in helping us achieve remarkable success and, for that, we are truly grateful.” – Toshiki Agata, Managing Director of Hoshizaki Europe B.V.

2017 marks an historic milestone for Hoshizaki as it celebrates 70 years of innovation, perseverance, and dedication to quality.
The year is doubly significant as it is also 25 years since Hoshizaki Europe was formed.

Founded by the late Shigetoshi Sakamoto, and with initial operations involving only four staff members, Hoshizaki has achieved monumental growth, culminating in its position as the largest ice machine producer. Our ice machines, and latterly fridges and freezers, are now sold in more than 100 countries across many different sectors via its network of valued dealers.

It has been an exciting journey over the past 70 years. Starting in the 40's making parts for sewing machines, the 50's saw Hoshizaki get its big break in soft drink vending machines, and the 60's introduced the release of Japan's first automatic ice machine. Sakamoto believed that a new wave of luxury living was about to explode. It was a hard sell as customers were wary of claims that these machines could make ice in just 30 minutes and it was the progressive American market that first embraced the concept.Throughout the 70's, refrigerators and dishwashers were added to the range of products produced by Hoshizaki, while the following two decades saw the company further expand into US, Europe and the rest of the world. Heading into the 21st century, the Hoshizaki brand continued to expand as Lancer, the world’s second largest beverage dispenser manufacturer, and the Danish refrigerator company Gram Commercial A/S, joined the Hoshizaki group.

The journey of the brand and its success, employees, and quality products are celebrated, and the vision for the years to come are re-established. Aiming high, Hoshizaki intends to have the No. 1 share in all individual countries and regions by 2020, with the goal of Hoshizaki being in half of the world’s kitchens and standing alone as a leader in foodservice equipment.

“Over the years, our loyal staff and dealers have played a key role in helping us achieve remarkable success and, for that, we are truly grateful,” comments Toshiki Agata, Managing Director of Hoshizaki Europe BV. “Our considerable achievements are largely down to the many individuals who believe in Hoshizaki and we welcome this opportunity to show our immense gratitude and appreciation.”

Congratulations all Hoshizaki employees across the globe for their hard work, enthusiasm and creativity, and for their contribution to the company’s current success!

Thank-you to all of our customers who contribute every day to our success, and for the continued loyalty over the past and future years to come!

Hoshizaki Europe has moved office location.

Hoshizaki Europe celebrates 25 years of successful operation in 2017 and on this occasion we have moved to our new headquarter office. The new premises, still based in the heart of Amsterdam, boasts 6 meeting rooms and spacious open plan areas. The increased space helps facilitate our future growth, whilst improving our current working environment.

We welcome you! Please come and visit!

Hoshizaki announces the latest addition to its portfolio

Hoshizaki is proud to announce the launch of its newest innovation - the Snowflake GII. Designed with reliability, durability and affordability in mind, the Snowflake GII refrigeration range will offer the ideal solution for caterers working to more cost-conscious budgets whilst seeking to purchase the very best quality without the need to compromise. Combining decades of Danish refrigeration design experience from Gram, and pioneering Japanese technology engineering, the brand-new Snowflake GII offers unrivalled quality at a competitive price point. Gram has been producing high-performance refrigeration and freezer equipment for professionals for over 100 years, and with Hoshizaki coming into its 70th year of operation, Snowflake GII combines the best experience in the commercial refrigeration and freezing industry.

Built to deliver optimum operation performance, the Snowflake GII can withstand the most demanding environments in ambient temperatures of up to 40oC, thanks to its innovative tropicalized cooling system.

The Snowflake GII range has been developed to meet the complex and varied needs of chefs and caterers across the foodservice industry. Available as cabinets with reversible doors - for extra flexibility - meaning that they can be opened on either the left or right, as well as counters, which provide valuable prep space for those working within confined spaces. The removable door gaskets, easy to clean interiors with anti-tilting function, and cleaning free extractable condenser makes for easy care, reducing maintenance costs and offering a stable performance.

The Snowflake GII is the latest innovation to enter the market from Hoshizaki, helping to further cement its international reputation for manufacturing pioneering products within the refrigeration and ice maker categories.

Hoshizaki UK’s director of field sales and national accounts, Simon Frost comments, “We’re extremely proud to be launching The Snowflake GII into the UK foodservice market. A great deal of insight and research has led to the production of this quality, durable and affordable range, allowing Hoshizaki to maintain its reputation for quality and innovative design, while further enhancing its position as a leader in the refrigeration market. The Snowflake GII is an illustration of Hoshizaki’s commitment to bring to market ground-breaking technology and best in class products”.

We Celebrate!

We are thrilled to announce that Gram Commercial’s Superior Plus K72G has won the prestigious ProCold ‘Award for Europe’s Best Products’ in the Vertical Chilled Storage Cabinet category.

The ProCold product competition recognizes the most energy efficient refrigeration appliances with climate friendly refrigerants in Europe.

Winners were confirmed through independent laboratory tests according to the latest measurement standards and draft Ecodesign/Energy label regulations.

The award ceremony took place in Düsseldorf on 7 March 2017 in the ECOpark Forum at Euroshop and was attended by both Gram Commercial and Hoshizaki Europe company representatives.

What is the ProCold Project?

By showcasing the best products in five, separate, refrigeration categories, ProCold, a project supported by the EU’s Horizon 2020 Research & Innovation Programme, is aiming to support and hasten the switch to climate-friendly refrigerants.
ProCold’s TopTen competition seeks to establish the most energy efficient professional and commercial refrigeration equipment currently available in Europe. Its mission is to:

- identify the professional and commercial cold products with the highest energy efficiency (and climate friendly refrigerant use)

- highlight and increase visibility of such products among professional buyers and other stakeholders

- promote their further market uptake

- motivate the development and offer of increasingly efficient energy-using products in the European market.

Why the Superior Plus?

The award winning, stylish Superior Plus K72G, with its net usable volume of 463 litres, is from an extensive range of 5th generation Gram gastronorm refrigerated storage cabinets, sold by the Hoshizaki Group in Europe. Its ground-breaking design utilises exclusively HFC-free refrigerants and its annual energy consumption is just 285 kWh meaning that it has achieved an energy efficiency rating of A.

“We are delighted that our commitment to manufacturing energy efficient refrigeration has been recognised by the important and influential ProCold Topten Project,” comments Anders Sjøgaard, CTO at Gram Commercial. “The award will help to further assure our existing and future Hoshizaki customers that they are choosing the most beneficial products for a green future.”

Ecodesign and Energy labelling from 1st July 2016

Within the EU a new energy labelling scheme for professional refrigerators and freezers has come into force from the 1st July 2016. It is based on the new EU Ecodesign Directive which states that all products sold within the EU marketplace must legally pass stringent Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS). All products must achieve at least a ‘G’ energy rating. If they do not meet this new threshold they cannot be sold in the market (within EU). In practice this means that by law all products which consume energy above the minimum level will not allowed be sold within the EU from 1 July 2016.

The new requirements of Ecodesign, which have been developed to drive energy efficiency and environmentally friendly design, applies to all manufacturers and importers who sell and market products within the EU.

The labelling scheme is mandatory for countries within EU, and is based on a letter-based rating from A to G, where A denotes the most energy saving products. To further improve energy efficiency the energy thresholds will be tightened again in 2019. This means that class A+++ will be introduced by 1 July 2019.
